I made a post before asking for help with some boot issues. At the time, I didn't actually know what the problem was so there wasn't much information I could provide. The solution I got worked but I've since found that I can't use it. I've also got a better idea on what the problem is.

https://i.imgur.com/4beQjdG.png
The screen in the image shows up for less than a second so I had to record a video and screenshot the frame. But at least this time I have an error message to work with. I only found it because I happened to notice a flash of yellow before it froze on the refind screen during one of my attempts.

This happens only on my desktop and not on my laptop. I am using refind as my bootloader and my root partition is BTRFS. The solution that was suggested in my previous post was to mount my efi partition on
/boot
instead of
/boot/efi
and this actually solved the problem. So I know that the issue must be that the filesystem drivers that refind uses doesn't work on my PC.

The reason I can't use this though is because I am dual booting Pop OS on the same SSD. My efi partition is 500MB and the kernel images for Pop and Arch are too big. I also can't boot into Pop on my PC anymore. This all started when I added the drivers to refind. I do plan to wipe my Pop install and use Arch instead after I try it for a bit. I just wanted to avoid having to make a partition image as a backup and potentially break my install entirely.

I know it's possible to boot with my current config since it works on my laptop. But searching for the error didn't give me any useful results. This is the closest thing I found (and it's very frustrating to read).

So I just need to find a way to fix the Buffer too small error on my PC while still using refind drivers.

Here's my lsblk output from Pop -

sdb 8:16 0 232.9G 0 disk ├─sdb1 8:17 0 512M 0 part /boot/efi ├─sdb2 8:19 0 64G 0 part / ├─sdb3 8:20 0 145.4G 0 part /home └─sdb4 8:21 0 23G 0 part /mnt/arch_root

I can provide more information about my setup. Any help is appreciated.

   submitted by /u/DarkmatterAngry
[link] [comments]

I've been practicing installing arch on a vm in the last few days and initially I tought the manual install process would be a real chore. I was contemplating using a pre made script or even archgui (which are excellent tools, btw) to automate things for me, but I decided against that and started learning how to do the instalation manually. What an experience that was! In the last 5 days or so I learned more about what a linux distro actually is and how stuff works than in all the years I've been running Ubuntu (which is a good distro, but I wanted to actually understand and have more control about my system). The arch "do it yourself" spirit really provides an enlightening experience and I'm really enjoying it! Everyone should give this a go, even if just on a vm to test things out in a safe enviroment. I'll do that myself a couple more times while I get my files backed up and hopefully a couple of days from now I'll be getting into arch head first!

   submitted by /u/benjamarchi
[link] [comments]

I cleared the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam recently. It is an exam where one has to perform tasks on the clusters to solve the scenario based questions. In this post, I will be talking on how I used GNU Emacs in the exam environment. Though Im referring to CKS here, this post should be helpful for other exams by Linux Foundation like CKA, CKAD, etc.
The exam environment Before we get to Emacs related details, lets understand the CKS exam environment.

Hi fellows emacsers,

I wrote a little tool in C that allows you to use normal keys as modifiers.

I found the other programs that were already providing this functionality either too complicated or not working very well.

So I thought this could be useful to some of you. I use it every day and I can definitively feel the beneficial effect on my pinky.

(For the curious ones, my keyboard setup is the following: CTRL on thumbs, CAPS is bound to ESCAPE, and both CAPS and ENTER have ALT as their secondary function. ALT is also on pinkies too, just in case. The "super/windows" keys are either on thumbs (next to CTRL) or palms depending on whether i'm using the laptop keyboard or the external one.

For normal remapping I have been using the X config files.)

   submitted by /u/__g_p__
[link] [comments]
