<p>Junji Zhi has a newish (since September) blog that he calls <a href="https://emacstil.com/">Emacs TIL</a>. As the name suggests, it’s a collection of small tips that Zhi learned on any particular day. The tips are all short—one or two minute reads—and easy to digest.</p>

<p>Many of his discoveries will be familiar to experienced Emacs users but, to me at least, some were new. It doesn’t really matter because they’re so short that you don’t have to spend much time with them. If you’re interested in the opportunity to discover short Emacs tips, it’s worthwhile subscribing to his feed. It’s not a high volume blog so you won’t be overwhelmed.</p>

We’re not going to have time to fix this ourselves in time, so this would be a great time for XMPP folks who grok xmpp.js to come get involved and help to ensure the best possible XMPP experience! </p></li>

<li><p>It’d be really nice to be able to render nice schedule widgets for each devroom, and embed the overall schedule in the support rooms etc. The current HTML schedules <a href="https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/day/saturday/" rel="nofollow">https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/day/saturday/</a> and <a href="https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/room/vcollab/" rel="nofollow">https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/room/vcollab/</a> don’t exactly fit - if someone could write a thing which renders them at (say) 2:5 aspect ratio so they can fit nicely down the side of a chatroom then that could be awesome!</p></li>

We have a project to do this: matrix-ircd, but it almost certainly needs more love and polish before it could be used for something as big as this. <p>This is part 3 in our series of how to read the Bible. In this episode, Tim introduces us to the three main times of literature styles found in the Bible. Narrative, poetry and prose discourse.</p>
|
||||
<p>The first half of the show (0-28:15), Tim introduces us to the three forms of literature in the Bible and how they are laid out using the analogy of a grocery store. The guys talk about the challenge of reading the Bible. Wishing that they had UN automatic translation headphones.</p>
|
||||
<p>In the second half of the show (28:15-40:00), the guys talk about some of the inner psychological stories we tell ourselves. And how stories are a way to make sense of the world. Tim shares a quote from CS Lewis talking about the importance of reading expanding our worldview. Tim explains that many people expect the Bible to be a set of moral instructions, but actually the narrative structure of the Bible is much more open-ended.</p>

<p>The last part of the show (48:00-End), the guys discuss how our brains are hardwired for narratives and how the stories of the Bible work in our brains. Jon muses about maybe all of life and the Bible can be distilled down to asking “What do I desire?” and Tim breaks down the structure of Psalm 19.</p>

<p>Next week the guys will dive into the Scriptures and talk about some examples of the different types of literary styles.</p>
