Hi!

First post here, long time emacs user, I hope I understood the rules correctly.

I'm trying to use pkcs11 client authentication from within emacs (the new way if possible, i.e. without disabling the internal gnutls support).

On the command line it's possible to use client certificates from a hardware token via e.g
--provider /usr/lib64/libeTPkcs11.so
and by passing the appropriate strings for
--x509certfile=
and
--x509keyfile
(obtained via p11tool).

From https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_mono/auth.html#Help-for-users I gather that it should be possible to set those strings in
~/.authinfo.gpg
but I guess the only thing that's missing would be the
--provider
switch.
Setting Up a Minecraft Server on a Raspberry Pi

This week we’re continuing our coverage of ‘easy’ projects you can do at home with your $35 Raspberry Pi.

In prior weeks we talked about how to setup digital signage, a home VPN and Docker.

This little device has thousands of potential use cases but this week let’s turn it into a fun project for the family as a Minecraft Server.

All you need for this project is to:

Go to www.minecraft.net/download/server

Download the .jar file

Go into yourfolder where the .jar file is and right click on the file and select copy path

Next open up a terminal window and type “sudo su” then type navigate to the server folder” .

Then type “java -jar minecraft_server.1.11.2.jar” this will run the server.

When it is running an error will pop up saying that you must agree to the eula.

So in your server folder there should be a file that was created called “eula.txt” double click on it and change “eula=false” to “eula=TRUE” and save it.

That’s it, you now have a Minecraft server the whole family can join running on a $35 computer.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has passed away at 90. He is known for his work in shattering the chains of South Africa’s apartheid system and then for pursuing reconciliation. A word that spans his life is peacemaker. From the NYTimes:

Desmond M. Tutu, the cleric who used his pulpit and spirited oratory to help bring down apartheid in South Africa and then became the leading advocate of peaceful reconciliation under Black majority rule, died on Sunday in Cape Town.

As leader of the South African Council of Churches and later as Anglican archbishop of Cape Town, Archbishop Tutu led the church to the forefront of Black South Africans’ decades-long struggle for freedom. His voice was a powerful force for nonviolence in the anti-apartheid movement, earning him a Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.

When that movement triumphed in the early 1990s, he prodded the country toward a new relationship between its white and Black citizens, and, as chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he gathered testimony documenting the viciousness of apartheid.

“You are overwhelmed by the extent of evil,” he said. But, he added, it was necessary to open the wound to cleanse it. In return for an honest accounting of past crimes, the committee offered amnesty, establishing what Archbishop Tutu called the principle of restorative — rather than retributive — justice.

Here is another of his memorable sayings:

Politics were inherent in his religious teachings. “We had the land, and they had the Bible,” he said in one of his parables. “Then they said, ‘Let us pray,’ and we closed our eyes. When we opened them again, they had the land and we had the Bible. Maybe we got the better end of the deal.” ...

Another talk in the 2021 EmacsConf program is John Wiegleys video on whats coming in Emacs. Almost all of the talk is about new features in Emacs 28, of course. The talk is only 7 minutes, 17 seconds long so you should watch it if you have any interest in Emacs and where its going.

Heres a list of the features Wiegley covers, cut from the talk transcript:

Native compilation

Build with Cairo by default

New mode, but off by default: context-menus

Tab-bar and tab-line received many enhancements

A command can marked as specific to a mode

Transient input methods

show-paren-mode is enabled by default

We now have a Non-GNU ELPA

repeat-mode

project.el has dozens of new commands

Shorthands for Lisp symbols

Again, if youre an Emacs user, you should definitely spend the time to watch this.
