Repost due to getting some details wrong in the original title.

Also, actually, the command doesn't fail: it interprets
d 10
as
C-u 62-
, so
d 10 j
is read as
C-u 62 j
, and instead of deleting 10 lines below point, we instead jump 62 lines down.
d 20 j
is interpreted as
C-u 72 j
,
d 30 j
as
C-u 82 j
, and so on (unless there are multiple 0s in the command; for instance
d 100 j
is read as
C-u 620 j
).

Here's the init.el needed to reproduce this issue; just open a buffer and activate
evil-org-mode
, then do any evil command with a 0 in the digit argument:
y 10 j
,
d 10 k
,
y 30 l
, etc.

I discovered that this is due to this line in
evil-org-mode
; commenting it out removes the issue. However, I'm not sure why that is; what it's attempting to do makes sense to me, and it seems to be identical to what evil itself does.

I'd use edebug, but I'm not sure if that's possible since the result of the
evil-redirect-digit-argument
call is just a wrapper of a lambda that I don't know how to step into. Besides,
evil-redirect-digit-argument
seems to be being used correctly from what I can tell.

Does anyone know what's causing this issue or how to fix it? I'm super curious.

   submitted by /u/summetria
[link] [comments]

I then booted into my Debian OS and ran update-grub, which added Arch and updated the root path. I've done this for other OSes with no problem, but with Arch I get dropped into emergency shell. #+AUTHOR: Protesilaos Stavrou
* Background information
Version =0.11.0= of Modus Operandi and Modus Vivendi (see CHANGELOG)
introduced customisation options for rendering the faces that pertain to
parenthesis matching in a more intense colour. The relevant symbols
are:
- =modus-operandi-theme-intense-paren-match=
- =modus-vivendi-theme-intense-paren-match=
Unlike the default configuration that used a dedicated/unique colour for
the relevant faces (referenced by the palette variable =bg-paren-match=),
the "intense" variant was using a shade of blue that was not designed
specifically for this task (=blue-intense-bg=).
The option did achieve its intended effect, but left something to be
desired: /it was inconsistent/.
* Scope of this review
This review is two-fold:
- Normalise the differences between the two themes, so that
transitioning from the one to the other feels more natural.
- Use a bespoke colour for the "intense" style (=bg-paren-match-intense=),
to account for the unique requirements of this particular facet of the
design.
* Relative luminance (old vs new)
The following tables summarise the results in terms of contrast ratios.
They measure the relative luminance between the "bg-paren" variables and
those they are used with.
Columns 3 and 4 refer to the colour values of =bg-paren-match= and
=bg-paren-match-intense= respectively. These are directly combined with
=fg-main=, so they need to have a minimum contrast ratio of 7:1, per the
design principles of the Modus themes for conforming with the highest
accessibility standard of WCAG AAA.
The other colours are contextual and are only meant to highlight the
changes between the old and new implementations.

It’s interesting how your perspective on things shifts as you get older.

A little while after Valentine’s Day this year, I remembered an experience (many
years ago) when I came across a poem while browsing in a bookshop, just after
Valentine’s Day. I had just endured a very painful and messy break-up of a
relationship, and my bookshop meandering was an attempt to distract myself for a
while. I picked up a book of poetry at random (Michèle Roberts’
collection ‘All the selves I was’), and opened a page at random. Bam.

The poem I had opened the book at was ‘poem on St Valentine’s Day’. My heart
beat faster. I read the short poem and it was one of those magical moments where
it felt as if the poet was inside my head, reading my thoughts, and had written
a poem — right there on the spot — especially for me.

The poem is beautiful but brutal. It describes the aftermath of a break up when
you have to separate your life from someone else’s, and uses surgical imagery to
evoke the pain and difficulty of this process, unpicking stitches and exposing
“the wound / red and raw to the february wind”. The shock of the poem nearly
brought me to tears on the spot and I (of course) bought a copy of the book.

Happily, I haven’t had to endure that kind of pain for many years, but for some
reason, I thought of the poem this past Valentine’s Day, and read it
again. I remember the shock of reading it originally, but I found it interesting
that one particular part of the imagery in the poem has subtly shifted its
meaning for me in the intervening years.

At the end of the poem, she writes:

learning to save myself, learning to live
alone through the long winter nights
means so much unknotting, unknitting
unravelling, untying the mother-cord
— so much undoing

Over the intervening years, I’ve done a lot of metaphorical unknotting and
unravelling, and plenty of literal unknitting and unpicking too. I’ve come to see
those processes not as failure but as an integral part of the making process.
Making and unmaking are part of the same thing, and if you want to learn, to
grow, to experiment, to be bold, you often have to unmake. Yes, it can be
frustrating or even painful, but it’s a good thing. Unmaking and making anew
almost always results in something better and stronger, and in the process, you
learn. You just have to be brave, take a deep breath, and get out your seam
ripper.
