Hej fellow guixers,

let me preface by saying that I wish to be notified shall this subreddit be considered an "official channel" of guix communication, because I respect their wish to keep things not open source out of the project.

I am in the very slow process of migrating a rising number of computing applications over to Guix System, intending to eventually replace all other linux distros with this one, on all of my machines.

Gaming, however, is one of the things I still struggle with. Not only is the number of packages commercial (gog) games quite limited as of yet, but also, I cant get the nvidia-driver to work properly. Since I happen to own a nvidia card, the nouveau drivers make gaming regarding even the packaged games (factorio, the dark mod, ...) quite a nuisance.

Thus, I wanted to know if any of you have gotten the nvidia-driver package to work properly on your guix system. If so, would you mind sharing your configuration? Because I've tried it in several instances unsuccessfully, and also heard david from system crafters say that he can't get it to work either.

Have a good day, fellows :)

   submitted by /u/olivuser
[link] [comments]

Ive successfully managed to install Arch on my new laptop and Ive got nearly everything set up perfectly. I installed the intel and NVIDIA drivers without any issues and I have optimus manager running MOSTLY fine. Theres just one last issue Id like to tackle so my system is set up perfectly, and thats hybrid graphics. For whatever reason I cant get hybrid mode to work. Ive done everything the wiki suggests but so far nothing has helped. Integrated mode works, NVIDIA mode works. I can boot up with either option and switch freely between them without issues. But if I enable hybrid mode, I just boot up to a black screen if I manually edit the optimus config file, and Im just unable to log back in when I use optimus-manager —switch hybrid. Its not a huge problem because I can still use both of the single GPU modes, but its a little inconvenient to have to log out whenever I want to use my NVIDIA card. Anyone able to offer some insight as to what could be going wrong here?

   submitted by /u/KingD-3
[link] [comments]

Anyone can provide bug fixes and translations to Cinnamon spices

Both the Authors and the Linux Mint team is now directly involved in the maintenance of all Cinnamon spices. Many spices were removed, many were fixed, many were updated and the team is now able to add support to spices not only for current versions of Cinnamon but even for upcoming ones.

By Jeff Banman

What is the most evangelistic thing a Christian could do? Suppose a certain Christian desired all people to know Jesus and they gave themselves wholeheartedly to that task, what might it look like? As evangelicals we might imagine that person holding a crusade in a football stadium or maybe just telling everyone they meet about Jesus, whether it’s on a bus or at the office. We have many predetermined categories of what evangelism looks like. But what if that certain Christian was in one of Paul’s churches in the first century? Then what might evangelism look like?

Surprisingly, evangelism in Paul’s churches looked almost nothing like evangelism in our churches. To begin, when it comes to the motivation or reason for evangelism, modern evangelicals always point to the Great Commission at the end of Matthew’s gospel: “Go and make disciples of all nations. . .” All our evangelistic efforts are built on this commission, yet amazingly Paul never mentions it once in any of his letters.
