I found an excellent deal on this Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 laptop whose OS I completely intend to nuke in favor of some Linux distro (inclined to arch/opensuse but not completely decided).

The problem is that me, being (what I self consider) a Linux user for some years, was unable to install Ubuntu on another Lenovo laptop some time ago. I couldnt, for the life of me, get past of the grub installation, always with a dark error that grub-install couldnt find the /dev/sdX where I was installing. I tried anything: disabled fastboot/secureboot, tried several distros at this point, swapped to a brand new disk and the result was the same, with the laptop ending up being crippled by windows again, which it happily ate up.

I have read the arch wiki and other forums about how does this laptop team up with Linux with mixed results to the point that I have no idea if this would be a good laptop for Linux or not. (Hope I didnt overlook anything)

Does anyone have first hand experience on this model or similar? Does anyone know a source where I can read the compatibility of certain laptop with Linux (for future reference) ?

   submitted by /u/elestadomayor
[link] [comments]
