U.S. NEWS
Waukesha Parade Tragedy
An SUV plowed through a holiday parade in Waukesha, WI, on Sunday, killing 6 and injuring close to 50.
Police say 39-year-old Darrell Brooks, Jr. turned down the parade route while fleeing a domestic disturbance. Brooks, who has a lengthy record, was recently released from custody for a separate incident in which he ran over a woman.
At his initial court appearance yesterday, Brooks was charged with 5 counts of homicide. More charges are expected to follow, as the 6th fatality, a child, was announced during the proceeding.
As details emerge about Brooks, so do stories of “the helpers,” like

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
The promise of heaven does not remove the pains of this world, but it does give us hope, strength, and peace during life’s most difficult seasons. Join us in praying for hope, strength, and peace for everyone impacted by this tragedy.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.”

ECONOMIC NEWS
Jerome Powell, the Sequel
President Biden nominated Jerome Powell to lead the Federal Reserve. It’s a “don’t rock the boat” decision; Powell already holds the position.
Powell, a Republican, won broad bipartisan support for taking unprecedented measures to support the economy when the bottom fell out in March 2020. Broad support… but not universal. Progressive Democrats think he’s too soft on big banks and is neglecting to consider the Fed’s policies’ impact on climate change.
Assuming he’s confirmed by the Senate, his second term will be all about reining in inflation. This year’s average Thanksgiving feast is the most expensive on record, up 14% from last year… and that’s just the dinner. Gas is up $1.28/gallon since last Turkey Day and surpassed COVID as the largest deterrent for traveling this Thanksgiving.

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
Inflation may be just one of many reasons you’re anxious heading into Thanksgiving, but your hope is not contingent on the economy, a political outcome, or anything else of this world.
Be reminded of the strength of God and of your security as his son or daughter by listening to Influence Music’s song 10,000 Armies.

MUSIC NEWS
Unshuffled
Not all of us can get a company with 365 million users to change a major feature with a single tweet—but then again, we aren’t Adele.
The mega-star requested via Twitter that Spotify remove the default shuffle option on her newly-released album 30 so that it could be experienced in the order she intended. The company replied, saying " anything for you," and swiftly made the change.
Speaking of “swiftly,” T-Swift broke the record for the longest song to hit #1 with her ten-minute re-release of “All Too Well.” The previous record had been set by Don McLean’s 8-minute-long “American Pie,” which held the title for almost 50 years.
The Grammy’s also announced their 2022 nominees, with Jon Batiste leading all artists with 11 nominations.

Two of the 17 missionaries kidnapped on October 16th by the 400 Mawozo gang in Haiti were freed. The reason for their release is unclear, but the gang previously threatened to kill the abductees, which includes 5 children, unless they received $1M ransom per person. The U.S. is urging all Americans to evacuate Haiti.
The jury in the racially-charged trial of Ahmaud Arbery’s death began deliberating yesterday. The defendants have claimed they suspected Arbery of robbery and were making a “citizen’s arrest,” then shot him out of self-defense during an altercation. The prosecution says neither the citizen’s arrest or claim of self-defense are legal and that this was simply murder.
An arbitrator ruled that Kevin Spacey must pay the producer of House of Cards $31 million for breaking his contract’s sexual harassment policy. Spacey was immediately suspended from the show after being accused of sexual assault in 2017 and the show’s new season was rewritten to remove his character entirely.
It’s a battle of Goliath vs… Goliath. Amazon announced it would stop accepting payments by Visa from UK customers beginning next year and is considering switching it’s co-branded Prime credit card from Visa to Mastercard. Analysts say the Visa ban is a negotiating tactic by Amazon to get lower fees.
Early this morning, NASA launched the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission. Coming from rocket scientists, the idea is pretty simple: hit an asteroid with a refrigerator-sized satellite going 15,000mph… and see what happens. It’s a $330 million mission to practice redirecting threatening space rocks.
