Spacemacs and Org-mode can be customized to set look like a nice text editor for non-programmers. Yes, it takes time, but you can easily remove the emphasis markers through the customize-group in Emacs. You can change Heading color, size, foreground, and background. You will be able to use Spacemacs as a text editor quickly.
