You've almost certainly all heard this sentence before. As a new Emacs user and someone who does want to really get to know Emacs, I want to hear about all the pros and cons I have heard so far, from you guys. I'm really surprised how friendly this community is. I've never seen a more friendly online group ever.
I am the guy that asked about "Emacs-Lisp functions beneath the surface" a few days ago.
Anyway, I was watching this video and there is something that caught my attention more than anything else. And that is the sentence at 14:00 :
" Emacs is 12 MB, core with none of the Lisp extensions."
Is this really true? Why is Emacs considered a bloat Software, in some communities, then? 12 MB doesn't seem much.
And what do people mean when they say that Emacs is bloat or memory intensive? Is the core bloated?
There are definitely people that are more for debating than actually addressing problems or having a discussion. So I'm really curious, is it that there is actually a real reason they are saying it, or is it just that it's a common "saying" of Vim users and users who find Emacs "too difficult"?
Or is it that an average user uses so many packages that Emacs becomes CPU and/or memory intensive?
What do you consider a bloat software?
Also, even the guy in the video said that at 18:20:
"All these things that people have said about Emacs having a big footprint and being memory intensive blah blah blah it's all true"
I would love to hear your perspective on this commonly brought up "contention".
