# 👋Welcome to Nextcloud
|

|
|
This is our document storage as well as a hub for all kinds of applications and tools we use. Think of it like Office 365 but hosted by ourselves and far more flexible.
|

|
|
To start with, take a look along the top. You'll see all the available apps and tools we have each has it's own icon. Do your best to make sure that you understand what each is capable of. But the most important, and the one probably most useful, is files. Obviously, it looks like the file icon. The second, and the one you're probably looking at now, is collectives, it's a C with a star around it. This is sorta like OneNote meets SharePoint's website aspect.

## 📁Files
|
|
|
|
Files are pretty easy to work with. It's basically like OneDrive or SharePoint on the web, but it comes with the added bonus of just being simpler. Your files are essentially all the ones that DON'T have a multi-people icon in them. You should see the TFC Documents folder has this icon in it. That simply means it's a group folder shared by everyone. This folder, is our old SharePoint stuff. It's everything, the documents, archive, pictures, movies, all of it. It's much simpler laid out just like a generic folder structure.

If you click into there you should see all those files making it easy for you to navigate. What we'll do is use this as the place to store our files. And everything in the home icon at the top is your personal files. This is the same as your OneDrive.

|
|
|
Should you want to move all your OneDrive files over to Nextcloud, please let me know and I'll help you make that happen, it can be lengthy process if you have a lot of files, but this will make backing them up very easy.
|
|
|
|
The nice thing about Nextcloud is I've personalized it to try and make everything easy. Right click on any file or folder and you can download it, share it, delete it, move and copy it. And Nextcloud can view a lot and I mean A LOT of files. In the near future I'll have a way to see and work with documents, spreadsheets, and slides online as well but since we don't have Microsofts online apps integrated, however, this is coming very soon and just something I'll have to fix up for us in a while.

## 📓Collectives
|
|
|
|
Another cool thing is we have a powerful text app here like OneNote. That's what you are seeing right now. Collectives allows you to create pages/notes of information in a very powerful that includes headings, numbered and unordered lists and if you noticed above todo lists. It's very nice to be able to interact with these things, but it's organization isn't everything, it syncs in realtime what is being typed by others. So everyone can work on the same document.

On top of that, I can see others who are currently looking at the same document. And it color codes who has written what so that you know who to blame for that terrible spelign. Also 😁 EMOJIS!

|
While it's not the fastest thing in the world, it is effective and built in. I tinkered with other things to replace OneNote, but this is probably the easiest to use. The benefits are huge for the sake of backing things up and keeping old notes. Should you need to go backward, even if in the future you use some completely different than Collectives to keep your notes, you can still see them always and forever, they are stored in plain text, not some odd jumbled format that is hard to export and move around like in OneNote.

Technically Collectives isn't really anything special, it's just using text files and Nextcloud's built in synced up powerful text editor, but it get's kinda magical when you connect that with it's ability to link things together.
|
|
|
|
For instance, the page labeled Readme in the folder and the top level page in this collective link to this page. If you are in the Collectives app and open the side bar while viewing this page, you'll see a backlink. That means there is a page that links here so that you have a interconnected web of links that are move backward AND forward instead of just forward.
