Everyone is it and to tag someone, you need to tag their knees! However, both knees are in play, so when one knee is tagged you are still in the game, you just have to hold your knee with your hand and keep playing. If you let go you'll be out, also if both knees get tagged, you are out. Last man standing wins!

INTRO So What Theme….
Have you ever wondered why you are here? Like for real? Have you ever stayed up at night and just wondered why you are here on this earth? Or who you really are? How many of you have ever thought that maybe, just maybe everyone else is like an alien or robot and you are the only REAL person? Well, maybe you aren’t as strange as I am, but I HAVE! I’ve literally stayed up for hours thinking that maybe I’m the only real person and wondered why I was here. And trust me, most people do think that. AND did you know, that Jesus has an answer for that? Did you know that the Bible has answers to basically all of our questions that we ask ourselves?
(SLIDE)
So, this year at TFC, we are going to be looking at questions like that. Our theme this year is: “So What?”, and we are using that to look at some questions that a lot of people your age are thinking. So, each night we are going to look at a question, and ask “So What?”, so, what does the Bible say about that? Then, we’ll go look and actually see what the Bible says about that question. Once we find the answer to that question, we can then figure out what that means for our lives. Because, maybe Jesus has an answer for us that really is just a lot better than the answer we can come up with on our own.
Kicking Off
- Hand out Bibles and Handout
To get started we’re going to test your IQ. So write down your answers to these questions! (Handout and Powerpoint)
- I.Q. – Independence Quotient, that is
- A: 20 points, B: 15 points, C: 10 points, D: 5 points
So actually this is testing not your IQ, how smart you are, but your Independent Quotient. Or how independent you are.
- Basically a person with mostly A’s is very independent; mostly B’s is somewhat dependent; mostly C’s is more dependent, and mostly D’s is the most dependent.
Ask the group:
- Is it good to be completely independent?
- Is there a bad kind of independence? Explain.
◦ Refuses to ask for needed help or listen to any advice.
- Is there a right kind of independence? Explain.
◦ Can do things for himself and has confidence in his own abilities and judgement.
- Is it ever good to be dependent on others? Give examples: Mom washes my underwear.
Open with prayer
(SLIDE) The question we are trying to figure out the answer to tonight is: Who am I and Why am I here? So, what do you think?? Why are you here??
(SLIDE) Read Psalm 139:1-18 (ESV)
- Make a list of what God has done for and knows about you (verses 1-6). Write on board….
- (Search and known me; knows when I sit, rise; knows my thoughts, my path, my lying down, my words, etc.)
- What is the point that the writer is making in verses 7-12?
(God is everywhere at all times; he knows what is going on in my life and is leading me and holding me, whether in good or difficult, confusing times, etc.)
WE CAN’T GET AWAY FROM HIM!!!! (God is a stalker)
- How does that make you feel? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
- Define: identity
(Who I am, what makes a person who he or she is, individuality, selfhood, personality, character, originality, distinctiveness, differentness)
- How would you identify yourself?
- Define: purpose
(The reason for which something is done or created, or for which something exists)
- What’s your purpose?
- What are some things you learn about who you are and what you were created for in verses 13-16?
(I am not a mistake; God planned who I would be, what I would be like, how I would look, even before I was born; God formed me in my mother’s womb; because God made me, I can praise him and know that I am wonderfully made and created by him for his own purpose.)
- Read vs. 17-18: How would you describe God’s thoughts toward you?
(SLIDE) Tonight’s question: Who am I and why am I here? What’s the answer?
(SLIDE) A; “Since God is the Creator and I am his creation, the only way to understand who I am and why I am here is to live in dependence upon him.”
- What does it mean to live in dependence upon God? Trusting Him…
This is what we’ll be doing every week. We’ll be looking at questions that most people wonder about, and then looking at the Bible to find the answer. Like asking the question and then asking, “So what does the Bible have to say about that?”
(SLIDE) Put up on screen vs. 17-18
- When have you been overwhelmed with the realization that God’s thoughts toward you are so vast you can’t even count them? That His thoughts are good and kind and precious? That you are His treasure and cherished? Take a moment and think about this. THEN write out your prayer to God while this song is playing.
So What?
Give students time to address God on the “Dear God” section. Give them about 5 minutes to complete.
Dear God, When I think about who you created me to be,
I am amazed because……I wonder about……I thank you for……
